Most cancers we screen for routinely are highly survivable when caught early, and far more dangerous when missed. The challenge isn't whether screening works; it's making sure you get the right tests at the right time. That's a core job of primary care, and we take it seriously.

Screenings we coordinate

Based on your age, sex, family history, and risk factors, your personalized screening plan may include:

  • Colon cancer: colonoscopy or stool-based testing (Cologuard, FIT) starting at 45
  • Breast cancer: mammography starting at 40, with risk-based timing
  • Cervical cancer: Pap smear and HPV testing
  • Prostate cancer: PSA testing with shared decision-making
  • Lung cancer: low-dose CT for current/former smokers
  • Skin cancer: full-body skin checks with dermatology referral as needed
  • Hepatitis B and C testing, all adults at least once
  • Genetic risk evaluation for patients with strong family history (BRCA, Lynch)

Why family history matters

A strong family history of breast, ovarian, colon, prostate, or pancreatic cancer can mean earlier or more frequent screening, genetic testing, or specialty referral. Bring what you know about your family; even partial information helps us protect you better.

Our role

We track your screenings, refer you to imaging and specialists, follow up on results, and make sure abnormal findings get the right next step. Every patient leaves with a clear, written screening schedule.

Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions.

Don’t see your question? Reach out and we’ll answer it directly.

When should I start cancer screening?
Most screening guidelines start in your 40s, but it varies by cancer and risk. Colon cancer screening now starts at 45 for average risk; breast cancer screening typically at 40; lung cancer screening at 50 if you have smoking history. We'll personalize based on your situation.
Are colonoscopies and Cologuard equivalent?
Both are valid. Colonoscopy is more sensitive and lets us remove polyps in the same procedure, but requires prep and sedation. Cologuard is non-invasive and done at home but needs to be repeated every 3 years and has more false positives. We'll help you choose.
Should I get a PSA test for prostate cancer?
It's a real conversation. PSA screening reduces prostate cancer mortality but also leads to overdiagnosis in some men. We discuss your individual risk, life expectancy, and preferences before testing.
Do you do skin cancer checks?
We perform skin checks during physicals and refer suspicious spots to dermatology promptly. Patients with extensive sun damage, prior skin cancer, or strong family history should see dermatology annually.
